I’ve watched a few movies based on the idea of a time loop where someone is repeating the same day over and over again and they can do anything, because after that day, there are no consequences.
Mark is stuck in the loop, repeating each day, when one day he spots Margaret by the local swimming pool. They take a while to become acquainted, but once they do, they hatch a plan to find and make note of every ‘tiny perfect thing’ that happens during that day, in the town they live in.
Their relationship evolves and Mark begins fall for Margaret. Margaret, however, feels she cannot make that commitment, which we later find out is because her mother is in the hospital – dying of cancer, which is why she doesn’t want this day to ever really end.
They also spend a lot of their time trying to break the cycle, including getting on a plane to try and cross an international time change, but none of those plans work.
Finally, Margaret realises all the tiny perfect things actually map out into a 4D shape that she is very fascinated by, but the shape isn’t complete, there is one point missing. So to make this perfect moment happen, she meets Mark by the local swimming pool, and they kiss at the perfect moment. They have broken the time loop. The world continues on.
I liked how the movie ended with a happy(ish) ending – the loop is ended and Mark and Margaret are together, they even returned the missing dog, but Margaret’s mom is still dying, and that won’t change.
I love how both of the characters grow into themselves throughout the movie, they fix their flaws, find things that matter and finally make it out as better version of themselves.
And the best part is that is has a very clean no drama storyline which is as good as any romantic movie can get. And this is by far the best, and it’s coming from someone who doesn’t exactly enjoy romantic movies because of their lack in story overall.
This is a feelgood movie. If you wanna kill time and feel about it. This is definitely something you would love.
